Guide: Your Step to Success in Gaining a Prefect Position
Empowering Future Leaders: 90+ Character Development Program
At 90+, we believe that education goes beyond academics. Our Character Development Program is designed to nurture leadership, responsibility, and personal growth in students from Year 11 to Year 12. Through various roles such as prefects, captains, and portfolio leaders, students are given the opportunity to develop key skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
-
The Head Prefect is at the pinnacle of student leadership, overseeing the entire prefect body and serving as the bridge between students and school administration. This role includes representing the school at special events, speaking at assemblies, and facilitating prefect meetings. The Head Prefect is also involved in decision-making processes and approving various student activities
-
Supporting the Head Prefect, the Vice Captains focus on the Year 12 cohort, managing activities and representing the school at key events. They ensure smooth assembly operations and work closely with prefect executives, helping to organize meetings and school-wide events.
-
The Year Secretary plays a vital role in maintaining communication within the Year 12 cohort, sending emails, reminders, and event notifications. This position ensures that all students stay informed and connected.
-
In charge of the Cadet unit, this prefect leads decision-making and organising events such as parades and special commemorations like Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. The Cadet/RSM works closely with staff to ensure the cadet unit operates smoothly.
-
Each portfolio (PLT) has an executive who leads various initiatives. Whether it’s the Academic PLT organising cross-campus study sessions, the Boarding PLT arranging inter-boarding activities, or the Sports PLT managing teacher vs. student games, these executives are pivotal in planning and executing student events.
-
Prefects in these portfolios focus on fundraising and social impact activities. Events like the "World’s Greatest Shave" and "Ride with Richter" highlight their dedication to supporting causes within and beyond the school community.
-
These prefects act as versatile team members, stepping in to support any group in need of assistance. Their adaptability ensures that all events and activities run smoothly, even when other prefects are unavailable.
What’s Included in Our Character Development Program?
1. Prefect and Leadership Positions
Students in Years 11 and 12 can apply for over 60 prefect positions, each with specific duties and responsibilities. From Head Prefect to Stage Prefects, these roles require students to demonstrate leadership, uphold school values, and serve as role models for their peers. Responsibilities range from overseeing student behavior and dress code to organizing events and leading discussions in prefect meetings.
2. Portfolio Leadership Teams (PLTs)
Our unique Portfolio Leadership Teams (PLTs) provide students the opportunity to take charge of specific areas like Academics, Community, Co-Curricular, and Social Justice. Each portfolio has its own executive and team of prefects who plan and execute events, helping students gain valuable experience in teamwork, event management, and leadership.
3. Practical Skills for the Real World
Being part of the Character Development Program means more than just holding a title. Students develop public speaking, time management, problem-solving, and collaborative skills through real-world tasks like organizing school assemblies, leading student meetings, and hosting fundraising events such as the World’s Greatest Shave or Knox Gala Day.
Our Philosophy: Nurturing Well-Rounded Individuals
At 90+, we recognize that academic success is only part of the equation. We strive to create an environment where students can grow as individuals, developing qualities like integrity, resilience, and compassion. Through our Character Development Program, students are given the tools to become not only future leaders but also empathetic and responsible global citizens.
